Measles Outbreak in South West London
Thursday 1st September 2011
As you may have heard in the media there has been a significant increase in the number of cases of confirmed measles in several schools in South West London. This has been mirrored by similar increases nationally. There has been a much bigger outbreak in France with over 3000 confirmed cases.
In the UK, the Measles vaccine is combined with the Mumps and Rubella vaccines (MMR).
In Wandsworth these vaccines are given at 12-13months and then repeated at 18months.
At the times of major outbreaks or where quicker immunity is recommended the vaccines can be given 1month apart. It is recommended all children and young adults up the age of 18yrs are adequately protected
Make sure your children are adequately protected!
